We boast being such a philanthropic society and part of the Islamic Religion - People are obliged to give Zakat and encouraged to give "sadaka" to the poor.
That said, would anyone imagine, someone from this part of the world to replicate what Warren Buffet plans to do:

So it is Ramadan.... and why is it that when the street cleaners walk between cars trying to get a handout that the only people handing them change are westerners?
I'm not saying that local folk aren't - but in my personal experience, I haven't seen them.
